Hey y’all, I’m Shane, your friendly neighborhood progressive pastor, and today, we’re talking about “The Great Reset”—not the one where you turn your computer off and on again, but the one some Christians claim is a sign of the Antichrist’s global empire.

Because, apparently, working together to solve world problems means we’re all doomed.

So let’s talk about it. Is there really a secret plan to destroy capitalism, install a one-world government, and bring about the reign of the Antichrist? Or is this just another example of fear-based theology distracting us from actually following Jesus?

1. The Great Reset: Conspiracy or Cooperation?

First up: In a recent YouTube video, Jeff Kinley and Mark Hitchcock claim that the “Great Reset” is an orchestrated attempt to replace capitalism with socialism and nationalism with a one-world government.

Now, let’s just stop and ask a basic question:
If powerful elites wanted to abolish capitalism, why are they still… profiting off capitalism?

The Great Reset is a real conversation happening in global economic circles, but it’s not some secret plot for world domination. It’s an economic recovery proposal that came out of the World Economic Forum after COVID-19. It asks: How can we rebuild in ways that reduce inequality and protect the planet?

Sounds like… not the worst idea?

But here’s the theological issue:
Some Christians are so afraid of change that they assume anything global must be evil. They equate cooperation with control. But scripture actually celebrates global unity! Acts 2 describes the early church as a community that shared everything in common, ensuring no one was in need. That’s not some sinister plot—it’s literally the Kingdom of God.

2. COVID-19 as the Catalyst for World Control?

Kinley and Hitchcock also claim that COVID-19 was a manufactured crisis used to seize global control.

First of all, have these people ever watched governments try to agree on literally anything? We can’t even decide on metric vs. imperial measurements. The idea that all world leaders suddenly came together in a secret plan? Come on.

More importantly, though:

  • This conspiracy disrespects the millions who suffered by implying the pandemic wasn’t real or was exaggerated for power.
  • It also ignores the responsibility we have as Christians to care for the vulnerable (Matthew 25:40).

Instead of seeing pandemic response as a loving act—wearing masks, social distancing, vaccines—as ways to protect the most at-risk, this theology paints it as an oppressive system. Which, fun fact: The actual oppressive system was the one that valued profit over human lives.

3. The Antichrist and the Satanic New World Order

Kinley argues that global unity efforts are setting the stage for the Antichrist’s one-world government.

Ah yes, the classic move—any time people work together, it must mean Satan is at work. Never mind that Jesus literally said, “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9).

The reality: This is fear-based eschatology. It assumes the world is always getting worse, that cooperation is dangerous, and that power is always evil. But scripture doesn’t actually support that.

In Revelation, yes, we get these wild images of beasts and empires and destruction, but it’s not meant to be a literal end-times playbook. It’s an apocalyptic book—a coded message of hope to persecuted Christians in the Roman Empire.

It’s about resisting empire, not predicting future empires.

4. Is America in the Bible? Nope.

Alright, here’s a spicy one: Kinley claims America is committing slow suicide and won’t exist in the end times.

A few thoughts:

  1. America is never mentioned in the Bible. Like, at all. Because… it didn’t exist.
  2. The idea that America is “God’s chosen nation” is a theological invention, not biblical truth. The Bible isn’t about preserving modern superpowers; it’s about God’s ongoing work in the world.
  3. And let’s be honest: If America is declining, it’s not because of some divine punishment—it’s because of unchecked greed, systemic injustice, and a refusal to care for the poor.

Sounds more like prophets warning Israel than a sign of the rapture.

5. Jesus’ Actual Great Reset

Kinley wraps up by saying Jesus will return, destroy His enemies, and establish a perfect reign.

But what if Jesus’ Kingdom is already breaking in—right now?

See, here’s the problem with end-times obsession: It takes away our responsibility to build justice today. Instead of worrying about a one-world government, we should be worried about systems that exploit the poor, harm the planet, and uphold white supremacy.

If we want a “Great Reset,” let’s start with:

  • Resetting how we treat the marginalized.
  • Resetting how we handle wealth and privilege.
  • Resetting how we think about God—not as some warlord waiting to destroy everything, but as Love itself, calling us to transformation.

Final Thoughts

Alright friends, that’s a wrap for today. If there’s anything to take away, it’s this:

Don’t let fear-based theology distract you from real faith. The world isn’t doomed because people are working together. If anything, the world is doomed when we stop working together.

So let’s follow Jesus—not by obsessing over end-times conspiracies, but by living out the Kingdom of God right here, right now.
