How Should We Pray – Week 3 Devotional

Week 3 – “Your Kingdom Come”

In the second and third lines of the Lord’s Prayer, we pray for the coming of God’s kingdom and the doing of his will. We ask that God’s rule and reign would be established on earth, as it already is in heaven.

This prayer aligns with Jesus’ instruction in Matthew 6:33 to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.” When we prioritize seeking God’s kingdom and living righteously, we can trust that God will provide for all our needs.

In Romans 14:17, we learn that the kingdom of God is not just about physical things, but it’s about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. It’s about submitting to God’s rule and allowing Him to change our hearts and lives, so that His will may be done in us and through us.

As we pray “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” let us remember to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness in our own lives. Let us ask for the Holy Spirit to guide us in submitting to God’s rule, so that His will may be done in us and through us.

Dear God, Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We pray that you would establish your rule and reign in our hearts and in the world around us. Help us to seek first your kingdom and righteousness in our own lives. Guide us by your Holy Spirit to submit to your will in all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
